Another way is to use a hot glue gun to glue the edge down that is common known as waterfall edge (2) when you have done this, spread glue and place the backing fabric to protect the rug.
What can I use to seal the back of a rug?
Remember that to protect the yarns and prevent it from shedding you have to seal with glue. Depending on the intended use of the creation, expected lifespan and type of project, the appropriate primary adhesive will be chosen.
- For floor rugs we recommend the AAT 132 which is a synthetic latex compound formulated to laminate secondary backings to custom area rugs.
- For pillows, wall hangings and other objects the best option are acrylic adhesive like Elmer’s glue.
- For garments a vulcanized brushable latex.

- For garments the best option is lining it.
Usually the backing cloth used should be glued to the carpet backing after the primary adhesive has dried so to glue the backing cloth, a different type of adhesive is used like Gorilla Spray Adhesive or Roberts 8200.
